ABOUT THE EVENT

The 32nd SOFPEL Congress will take place in Lausanne, Switzerland, bringing together the scientific community for two days of exchange and discussion around the theme “The Brain in Motion.” 

This edition will explore the dynamic nature of brain function across development, behaviour, health and disease, highlighting how neural systems adapt, reorganise and interact with movement, environment and experience. Organised at Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV), the congress will provide a forum for researchers and clinicians to share recent advances, foster interdisciplinary dialogue and reflect on emerging perspectives in neuroscience.

ABOUT THE EVENT

The First International Workshop on Space Radiography will bring together researchers and experts to explore the role of X-ray imaging in human spaceflight. The workshop will focus on the use of radiography for monitoring astronauts’ health during long-duration and deep-space missions, addressing current diagnostic gaps through fast, low-dose imaging and AI-supported interpretation. 

Discussions will cover clinical applications for astronaut health assessment, emergency and diagnostic imaging in extraterrestrial environments, technological challenges of portable radiographic systems, and the translation of terrestrial research into space applications.

ABOUT THE EVENT

From 16 to 22 March 2026, the Semaine du Cerveau will celebrate its 28th edition. This annual initiative, coordinated by the Société des Neurosciences across France, is part of an international campaign that has taken place each March since 1999. 

It now involves around 100 countries and more than 120 towns and cities in France. The programme offers a wide range of activities designed to make neuroscience accessible to everyone. These include lectures, round-table discussions, laboratory visits, hands-on experiments, and interactive formats such as podcasts and livestreams. Each edition highlights recent scientific breakthroughs, invites the public to explore the complexities of the brain, and shows how advances in neuroscience resonate with everyday life and society at large. 

The events are aimed at general audiences as well as schools, with special sessions dedicated to pupils and students alongside activities for adults. A number of conferences and discussions are also made available online, extending the reach of the initiative beyond local venues.

The Bodleian Libraries at the University of Oxford present MAPS: Digital | Analogue, the second Sunderland Collection Symposium on Thursday 26 February 2026, at the Weston Library. 

This free, day-long event (booking required) explores the art and science of digitising historic maps and atlases, colour analysis on antique maps and cutting-edge conservation. Speakers include Bodleian map specialist Nick Millea and other experts discussing treasures such as tapestry and early world maps, digital cartography and globe conservation.

ABOUT THE EVENT

Imaging for Orbit is an inaugural full-day event organised by the Southern California Regional Chapter of the Organization for Space Medicine, Engineering and Design (OSMED) in partnership with MinXRay, taking place at the University of California, Irvine on Saturday 7 February 2026. It brings together engineers, clinicians, researchers, students and other multidisciplinary innovators to collaborate on rethinking and improving portable radiography systems for space missions and extreme environments, offering a practical forum for problem-solving, networking and cross-disciplinary exchange. 

Participants will have the opportunity to work on real-world challenges at the intersection of space medicine, biomedical engineering and design, with breakfast and lunch provided during the hackathon. Registration is required for this unique gathering focused on advancing off-planet healthcare technology.

ABOUT THE EVENT

On 4 February 2026, Jour de la Carte will bring together a decentralised, international movement dedicated to unveiling the democratic potential of maps and transforming how we relate to our territories. Across France and around the world, citizens, collectives, institutions and cultural organisations will synchronise activities — from participatory mapping workshops to curated exhibitions, performances and bespoke local actions — all spotlighting the power and politics of cartography.

Whether you’re part of a neighbourhood group, a cultural centre, a school, a research institution or a business, you can join in by hosting an “Atelier : Les cartes qu’il nous faut”, building a map-based exhibition from open collections, or imagining your own map-centred event. Materials and facilitation kits are made available to participants, enabling you to organise a meaningful action tailored to your community.

Through this collective mobilisation, La République des Cartes aims to make visible what is often invisible: the ways maps shape decision-making, resource access, territory and power. By turning maps into tools of engagement and dialogue, this initiative seeks to empower citizens to reimagine, debate and influence the futures of their regions.

Participation is free and open, and organisers can register their events to join the broader map day network.

ABOUT THE EVENT

On the occasion of the publication of Un désert, des météorites (Ulmer & Muséum national d’histoire naturelle), Tombées du ciel presents works born from a unique artistic and scientific expedition to the Atacama Desert. Paintings by Alexandra Roussopoulos and photographs by Julien Magre engage in dialogue with the research and texts of cosmo-chemist Matthieu Gounelle, exploring meteorites, desert landscapes, and our relationship to deep cosmic time.

ABOUT THE EVENT

This exhibition invites visitors on a journey through ten centuries of french literary and linguistic history. Drawing on over 100 exceptional manuscripts, the exhibition spans from medieval texts to modern works, showcasing how the written word has evolved in form, style, use and expression. Parchement and paper, elegant and unruly scripts alike, illustrations, revisions and marginalia all reveal the physicality and individuality of each document. 

Highlights include scholarly manuscripts, autograph drafts, intimate journals, and correspondence from celebrated authors such as Mme de Sévigné, George Sand, Simone de Beauvoir, Gustave Flaubert, Victor Hugo and others. More than a display of texts, the show explores how manuscripts are both vessels of knowledge and living traces of personal, cultural and creative identity, reminding us of the value in handwriting, mistakes, revisions and the quiet spaces between the lines.

Greenland Ahoy! – Perspectives on a Colonial Legacy is a major exhibition at the Bernisches Historisches Museum that explores Switzerland’s historical relationship with Greenland and the wider Arctic. The show invites visitors to reflect on cultural connections, historical expeditions, and colonial entanglements spanning centuries. It presents artefacts and narratives that highlight how Swiss explorers, scientists and travellers engaged with Greenland when it was a Danish colony, and how these encounters shaped both scientific knowledge and cultural imagination.
