Welcome to the first phase of the NeurAstra Educational Programme (NAEP) Flammarion Edition 2025/2026.
This introductory phase is designed to help you immerse yourself in the organisation, explore the programme possibilities, and start shaping your participation.

What to Do During This Phase:

Familiarise yourself with the SYSTEMS
Your research will fall into one or more of these systems: S01, S02, S03, S04, S06.

Think about your research – Start taking notes on:

What field and topic you would like to explore.
What type of research output you aim for (review, case study, exhibition, experiment).
How you plan to share your findings (international events, magazine submissions).
What tools and resources you need (Can it be done remotely? Do you need a lab?).
Potential partnerships with organisations or institutions that could support your research.

This month, we will delve into the concept of wonder in scientific endeavours and lay the groundwork for your research project. The aim is to inspire curiosity and set a strong foundation for your project’s development.

Lecture: The Art of Wonder – this lecture will explore the practice of wonder, illustrated by a real-world case study.

Your Research Proposal Draft:

By the end of the month, you will submit a draft of your research proposal. This draft is an opportunity to begin shaping your ideas, even if they evolve over time. It doesn’t need to be perfect—consider it a first step toward clarifying what you want to explore and how.

Your Research Proposal Draft:

There are no mandatory submissions related to the research project this month. However, we strongly encourage you to continue developing your ideas in preparation for the next submission in June. (Don’t worry about the exact format just yet—more details will be shared soon.) The drafts submitted so far have been very promising. With the feedback provided and the insights from this module, you should now begin to have a clearer sense of what you’re aiming to produce—whether it’s an experimental design, a detailed protocol, a literature or systematic review, an article, or a multimedia platform. If you are working on a literature-based project, this is a great time to start sketching out a table of contents to help organise your thinking.

This month’s lecture, “Philosophical Foundations of Scientific Inquiry,” invites us to step back from the mechanics of hypothesis testing to ask deeper questions about the nature of knowledge itself. Building on our previous focus on formulating and evaluating research questions, this session explores the underlying philosophies—such as positivism, interpretivism, and critical theory—that shape how science is practiced and understood.

Your Research Project Proposal:

This month, you will be also asked to submit an updated document outlining the progress of your research project. While it builds on your original proposal, this submission goes a step further—adding depth, refining your research direction, and beginning to explore possible applications or outcomes.

To support this, you’ll find in the Research Project folder five distinct templates, each tailored to a different type of project: literature review, systematic review, academic or science communication publication, multimedia platform, and experimental proposal.

Choose the template that best aligns with the nature and goals of your project, as it will help guide your thinking and structure your next steps effectively. Additional resources are provided for each project type to support you in completing this task. Selecting the right template is important—it will shape the development of your work, ensuring it evolves in a coherent and purposeful direction.

IMPORTANT: To preserve the structure of the template, please make a copy of the document and move it to your personal folder before editing. If you download the file and re-upload it to Drive, elements like checkboxes and formatting may be lost.

Lecture: Through a combination of core principles, real-world examples, and historical insights, this lecture reminds us that the scientific method is not static; it’s an evolving process grounded in curiosity, precision, and continuous improvement.

Your Research Proposal Draft:

There is no mandatory assignment this month; however, we encourage you to continue developing your research project and reflecting on the feedback we've provided from your last submission.

The next official submission is scheduled for October, but feel free to reach out to us anytime if you’d like additional feedback.
